Zertex (ZTX) Company Information
Federation Background:
In the not too distant future, Earth is governed by the Terrestrial Federation; sort of a United Nations but with complete governing control. Earth's own natural resources have, for the most part, been exhausted decades ago and so must rely on continuing streams of offworld supplies to support their needs. Many companies have vied for the licenses to explore and exploit these other worlds in the name of the Federation. After the 20 Years Corporate War, two companies remain - Zertex Corporation and Quark Industries. Our story centers around Zertex Corp.
Zertex Corporation(ZTX) is a huge corporate behemoth with extraordinary some say "complete" political power. In fact, they are only too happy to provide "advisors" to the Federation Council to assist them in writing laws which ostensibly benefit the government but in reality further the company's own goals. Operating primarily far from the core system, they are in effect their own government and pay little heed to edicts from the Federation unless they benefit their own needs.
As our story opens, while exploring one of their latest planets - Antares 4; Zertex(ZTX) has discovered an alien artifact. This discovery has yet to be reported to the Federation - after all, the company wants to see if it's something they want to keep to themselves first.
Antares 4
The original prospect claim to this planet is open to debate, but Zertex(ZTX) "managed" to obtain the exclusive rights to mining and colonization. Antares 4 is a G-Class planet approximately two-thirds the size of Terra, but with an atmosphere much more similar to Mars. Zertex(ZTX) has begun the long process of terraforming the planet in order to eventually open up the non-productive areas to colonists. Due to the long distance from both the nearest Federation outposts and Zertex(ZTX) Corporate HQ, Antares 4 is under a corporate oligarchy, with the Zertex(ZTX) Commander having absolute control over all activities and personnel on or in system.
Although nearly entire planet has been scanned at long-range, only approximately 14% of the surface has been deep-scanned. There are still many areas that are unmapped and unexplored, so the base and mining areas are under constant Beta Level alert status. Security Platforms can be seen criss-crossing the planets surface.
Currently, there is renewed emphasis on further mapping the surface due to the discovery of the artifact and <<<DELETED>>> but due to economic conditions, insufficient credits are available to secure the necessary ships and equipment - much to the frustration of the base staff. Zertex(ZTX) HQ assures the command staff that they're working on it, and it may just be a bug in the system.
